Vinted Members Voice Displeasure Over Sizing Changes
Vinted users have been reacting angrily due to a modification that led to products showing incorrect sizing.
The second-hand shopping app has altered its sizing categories for women's and children's clothes without notifying all shoppers about the modification.
Online Platforms Backlash
Numerous buyers and vendors have taken to social media saying Vinted listings now show a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
Vinted explained the revised method more closely matches other platforms.
They have suggested members to examine their items and adjust the sizing manually when needed, which has left users frustrated.
Measurement Approach Changes
Previously, the sizes had both a single numeric size and a letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter with a size spectrum such as S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the measurements have been reclassified - like an L measurement was formerly size 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
Member Experiences
A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Another user, based in Glasgow, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were appearing on the platform as measurements 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she said.
Required Changes
Another shopper, from Derby, said she had been left angered because the modification necessitated personal updates the sizes on "every single listing".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, because of my ongoing medical condition and Vinted sales have been crucial following partial earnings loss," she said.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million members, including 18 million in the UK.
It has proved a popular alternative versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance when a surprising modification on the platform has faced criticism: earlier, the platform withdrew an update to its shipping options following member complaints.
