Automobiles in German Town Found Marked with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Authorities stated they were contacted by a man who noticed a automobile in Hanau smeared with reddish fluid

Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Police state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.

The liquid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Police then found multiple other marked vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Police say preliminary tests suggest the fluid was likely human blood.

"There is still no indication as to where it came from; investigators are not yet aware of any physical harm in relation with the event," they commented.

Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for details.

A high-ranking political figure said the vandalism left him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.

"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
